Welcome to St. Anne CYO 2024-2025
We are immensely grateful for the many volunteers we have in keeping our CYO program going strong. Their dedication and commitment ensure that the children in our community have the opportunity to learn, develop and grow as individuals and as team players. If you are interested in being part of our wonderful coaching staff, we would love to hear from you. Here is a brief description of the responsibilities of a coach: As stated in the diocesan guidelines, prior to coaching, a CYO coach must:
Be selected and approved by their parish or Catholic school
Be of high school age or older. (An adult coach (18 years of age or older) must be present and responsible for the team at all times.)
Complete diocesan coaches’ certification, safe environment training and screening requirements
Coaches will need to run two evening practices during the week and be present at league games on weekends. For additional info on coaches' responsibilities, please refer to this link: CYO Coach Job Description All volunteers will need live scan fingerprinting and to complete the online Safe Environment training and screening. For more information on coaches' certification workshops, live scan fingerprinting, and Safe Environment training requirements, go to this link: CYO Coaches' Workshops and Certification
St. Anne sponsors a CYO program as one dimension of the total ministry to youth. Athletic programs can help young people toward imperishable crowns as well as perishable ones. A parish CYO program justifies its existence, the sacrifice, and expense it entails only if it makes better Christians of its participants.
In our CYO program, emphasis rests not on the number of games won or lost, but on the participants' attitude in victory or defeat. Learning how to lose is just as important as learning how to win. Learning how to win graciously is more important than winning itself.
Our program is designed to serve the needs of all our youth. It enables the gifted to excel, the less gifted to participate and improve. "Star" athletes and teams do not receive exclusive attention.
The principles of fair play and sportsmanship must govern every game. Dishonesty has no place in CYO competition. CYO competitors must not borrow from professional sports questionable techniques for winning at any cost.
Finally, St. Paul advises in I Cor. 9:24 —
"run to win". In CYO athletics, all who compete can win, if they run to win the real prize:
closer union with Jesus Christ.
