Homework

All homework assignments must be typed with minimum of 500 words. 

Due on September 25, 2011

  • Stewardship Donation Due
  • Pick a Confirmation Sponsor
    • Work with your parent(s) to pick up to two sponsors.
    • Remember, your sponsor must be at least 18 years old, a confirmed, practicing Catholic, and not one of your parents.
    • Your sponsor should also be someone you feel comfortable talking with and local enough that you can meet and talk with her/him.
    • Meet with or call your prospective sponsor and ask her/him to be your sponsor and make sure she/he can make the four dates indicated on the calendar:
      • Class & Mass on Sunday, November 13, 3:30 to 7:30 pm
      • Class on Sunday, February 26, 3:30 to 5:30 pm
      • Rehearsal on Sunday, April 29 at 3:30 pm
      • Confirmation Ceremony on Saturday, May 5 at 11:00 am
    • Provide your teachers with the full name(s), phone number, and email address of your confirmation sponsor(s)
  • Read Chapters 1-Being Catholic & 3-Faith and answer the following question(s):
    • What attracts you to the Catholic faith? If someone asked, "Why are you Catholic?” how would you answer?
    • One of the elements that the Church teaches is that faith seeks understanding, which means that it is okay to have questions and doubts about God and the Church! What are some things about God and the Catholic Church that you would like to better understand?
  • Start your BrownBag Projects!!!
  • Fundraising Form & Money Due
    • Actually, they are due on Sunday, October 2, but you can turn it in on September 25, if you wish.

  • Read Chapter 12-The Organization of the Catholic Church and answer the following question(s):
    • How have you experienced the differences between your religious beliefs and those of your friends? If you hear someone putting down people who practice a particular religion, Catholic or otherwise, how can you respond in a way that promotes tolerance and understanding?
  • Read Chapter 14-Intro to Liturgy and answer the following question(s):
    • This Chapter introduced a lot of words and phrases you may not be familiar with. How have these words and phrases helped you to better understand liturgy? What do you still have questions about?
  • Day Retreat (Youth Event) at Saint Anne
    • $15 fee due

  • All confirmation students have been registered and are expected to attend
  • Meals
    • Bring your own lunch and drink! There is no where nearby to buy a lunch and you will not be allowed off the grounds to buy one.
  • Information
    • Download the flyer with information
    • Make your own arrangements to be dropped off at 10:00 am and picked up by 6:30 pm
    • When you arrive at 10:00 am, find your teacher in front of the social hall and check in and receive your name tag
  • Offertory: Please bring at least $1 offertory to put in the collection at Mass
  • No Permission Slip Needed
    • No permission slip needed because the event will be at Saint Anne's

  • Read Chapters 16-Baptism & 17-Confirmation & 18-Eucharist and answer the following question(s):
    • Imagine that you have been asked to be a small child’s godparent. Some people write letters to their godchildren that they are to read when they are older, say, before Confirmation. What would you write to your godchild in such a letter?
    • What does it mean to you to totally belong to Christ?
  • Stewardship Donation
    • Stewardship donation will be due on Sunday, December 11 at the retreat, though we'll gladly accept it on November 13. This is a double-stewardship month (November and December) and please ask your sponsors to match your donation: $5 of your own money for November + $5 for December + $10 matching donation from your sponsor = $20 total.

  • Read Chapter 25-Honoring Family and answer the following question(s):
    • Think of one political issue that you care about: the environment, poverty, gun control, abortion, domestic violence, the death penalty. How does your faith help to inform your conscience about the issue? How could you become politically involved to make a difference about the issue?

  • Stewardship Donation Due
  • Read Chapter 26-Respecting Life and answer the following question(s):
    • We live in a throwaway and convenience society. We easily dispose of and replace things that are no longer convenient. Do you think this throwaway mentality leads to a lack of respect for human life? Why or why not?
    • This country has been involved in a war in your lifetime. According to the criteria for a just war, do you think these wars are morally right?
  • Read Chapter 30-The Moral Life and answer the following question(s):
    • Reflect on a time when you needed forgiveness from someone. How hard was it to ask for forgiveness? How did you feel about being forgiven or not forgiven? How hard is it for you to extend forgiveness to others?

  • Read Chapter 27-Respecting Sexuality and answer the following question(s):
    • How does pornography, whether it is considered soft porn, lore porn, as in some magazines or on the internet exploit and cheapen the gift of sexuality?
    • Given all that you have read in this chapter about the beauty, integrity, and purpose of sexuality, why would someone choose to be sexually active before they’re ready for marriage?

    • Bring $25 (amount subject to change) for the Fairyland Service Project. We need the money in order to buy food and materials for our projects.

  • Read Chapter 13-The Last Things and answer the following question(s):
    • Before reading this chapter, describe what you thought Heaven was like. After reading this chapter, how has your idea of Heaven changed? What questions do you still have about what happens after we die?

  • Read Chapter 7-Jesus' Message and Mission and answer the following question(s):
    • Chapter 7 started by asking what is your mission in life. How does the idea of sharing in Jesus' mission help you clarify your purpose in life?

  • Read Chapters 8-Jesus' Death & 9-Resurrection and answer the following question(s):
    • Read one of the Gospel accounts of Jesus’ Resurrection (Matthew 26:1-27:66, Mark 14:1-15:47, Luke 22:1-23:56, John 18:1-19:42). What thoughts and feelings do you have? What inspires you?
  • Stewardship Donation Due
    • Due to Lent, this is a double-stewardship month (March and April) and please ask your sponsor to match your donation: ($5 of your own money for March + $5 for April) + ($5 from for your sponsor for March + $5 for April) = $20 total.

  • Read Chapter 10-Holy Spirit and answer the following question(s):
    • One of the primary roles of the Holy Spirit is to be our Advocate, the one who stands by our side to help us defend our belief in Jesus. When do you feel challenged to defend your Christian beliefs? When are you tempted to compromise the things you believe in? Ask the Holy Spirit for the wisdom and the courage to defend and live out your beliefs.
    • Consider one of the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit. How have you already used this gift? How can you continue to grow in making it a part of your life?
